It wouldn’t be summer in Oregon without the “wildest” outdoor concert series! All concerts help raise money to further the zoo's mission to "inspire our community to create a better future for wildlife" and to interact with the zoo's many supporters.

Wed, July 4, Foot Traffic Flat Run:
Looking for the perfect place to start the festivities for your Fourth of July holiday? Look no further than Sauvie Island, the pastoral island paradise just 20 minutes north of downtown Portland. The flattest and fastest half and full marathon on the West Coast with the splendor of Sauvie Island awaits all runners and walkers that visit. Wed, July 4, Star Spangled 4th of July Celebration:
This event includes the raising of the flag, the national anthem, patriotic speeches, games, a country band, picnic or food for sale, and fireworks at dusk at Willamette Park in West Linn.

July 4 - 7, Blues Festival with Fireworks on the 4th:
The Waterfront Blues Festival is the largest celebration of blues, soul, funk, and rhythm & blues west of the Mississippi. Join the crowd for a long weekend filled with amazing performances across four stages, food, vendors, river boat cruises, and more!

Famous Tall Ships dock on the Oregon Coast:
July 13 - 22, Coos Bay
July 27 - 29, Astoria
Lady Washington, the official tall ship of Washington State, and the Hawaiian Chieftain, originally designed for cargo trade among the Hawaiian Islands, will visit Coos Bay this July! These majestic Tall Ships will offer family-oriented Adventure Sails and Battle Sails featuring a living history experience with demonstrations of tall ship handling, sea shanty singing, and maritime amusements. A ticket is required for all passengers on the sails, including babes in arms. Children 12 and under must be accompanied by an adult.

July 14 - 15, Oregon Lavender Farm Tour:
The Oregon Lavender Association member farms and nurseries, some not open any other time during the year, will be throwing their doors open to the public as their lavender is blooming. Tour the lavender farms and nurseries to enjoy the beauty and scents of lavender; enjoy the journey as you travel through Oregon’s pastoral countryside to each destination.

Sun, July 15th, Forest Grove Concours d'Elegance:
Attend the longest-running Concours d’Elegance in the Pacific Northwest and enjoy more than 300 classic cars on the tree-shaded campus of Pacific University. Enjoy live music, food, a beer garden, and a wine pavilion at this historic Greater Portland Event. All proceeds benefit Rotary Club Foundation Community Service projects.

July 20 - 21, Robin Hood Festival:
For well over a half a century, a small American town named Sherwood, Oregon has been celebrating The Sherwood Robin Hood Festival.  At the annual summer festival, enjoy live entertainment on three stages, medieval re-enactments, Maid Marian's Court, Robin Hood and his merry men, a popular community parade, a knighting ceremony, castle building and flower contests, a teen dance, a kids area, crafts, lots of music, delicious food, a beer and wine garden (including selections from local wineries and breweries) and a wide variety of activities, with over 100 vendors in our Old Town vendor village.

July 20 - 22, Cathedral Park Jazz Festival:
The Jazz Society’s Cathedral Park Jazz Festival is a FREE concert open to the public and held at Cathedral Park at the base of the St. Johns bridge in the Cathedral Park neighborhood of Portland. Now in its 38th year, the festival is a major musical event in the heart of summer for the Portland Metro area, and features the region’s best local jazz and blues musicians.

For more than 60 years, the Portland Highland Games have delighted participants with a unique, Scottish experience featuring incredible Scottish pipe bands, bag pipers and drummers, dancers and athletes. Come enjoy a full day of this Scottish festival. Explore Scottish clan tents and learn about your Scottish history (you may be surprised to find a little Scottish in ya). Immerse yourself in the music and culture. Watch fun demonstrations (like our popular sheep dogs) and be inspired by powerful athletes competing on the Heavy Athletics field. Become a whisky connoisseur in our whisky tasting tent. Kids Obstacle Challenge is the ultimate family adventure and the only obstacle course designed for kids ages 5-16, where both kids and parents get to run together!  If you are looking for a family-friendly kids event in the Portland area - look no further!  With a competitive wave in the morning and family fun waves throughout the day, the adventure course is 1.5-2 miles long with mud, water, and 13-15 fun and challenging obstacles.

​Portland International Raceway offers a challenging, 12-turn, 1.967 mile track that resonates with vintage racers. This festival event showcases cars from some of the most historically significant race series in the world. The Trans Am Series will be making new history at this event.

The IPNC is a three-day event, famous around the globe, as a mecca for lovers of Pinot noir and northwest cuisine. Although many homeowners take on small renovation projects themselves, they often hire contractors to work on larger projects, including kitchen or bathroom overhauls and home additions. Regardless of the project, finding the right person for the job can be a challenge.
 
This month, we're providing tips to help you hire the right contractor for your next home renovation project. In addition to offering tips intended to help you narrow down your list of contractors, this also provides several questions to ask the contractors you’re considering as well as the crucial details that should be included on the agreement with your selected contractor. Although this focuses on hiring a contractor, the tips provide a basic outline of things to consider if you’re hiring any type of building professional or tradesperson for a home project.
